Ramaswamier, S.
(d.1893). An early worker in the Theosophical Society (TS). He was a Br€hmana of high caste and his real name was R€mabathra. He joined the Theosophical Society in September 1881 when he was District Registrar of Assurances at Tinnevelly in Southern India. He is said to have been a probationary chela of the MASTERS and received a number of letters from them. He traveled to Sikkim in 1882 and there met his Master face to face on October 6 (cf. The Theosophist, Dec. 1882; reprinted in Letters from the Masters of the Wisdom, second series, appendix A). Ramaswamier remained devoted to Helena P. BLAVATSKY and the Masters until his death in 1893. After his death, his son published his letters; a facsimile of one of them, including an attack on the TS, was printed as a pamphlet. Although the originals were apparently destroyed, the letters taken from these publications are reprinted in Letters from the Masters of the Wisdom (second series) (TPH, 1926, pp. 106-114; letters 48-56).
