In the theosophical septenary constitution of the human being, the seven are grouped into the upper triad (štma-buddhi-manas) and a lower quaternary, consisting of the physical body, pr€Ša (vital energy), LI¥GA-®ARŸRA (the astral double), KšMA-R¶PA (desire body). Later theosophical writers re-classified the lower quaternary as the physical body, etheric double, astral body (k€ma-r™pa) and the lower mental body. This lower quaternary constitutes the mortal personality that perishes in stages after each incarnation. Only the upper triad remains which later will gather unto itself a new personality when it incarnates again.
