Gopal Krishna Gokhale

(1866-1915). Gokhale joined the Theosophical Society (TS) on February 2, 1898. He was considered by Annie BESANT to be the “greatest pioneer of Indian Liberalism.” For twenty years he devoted himself to the cause of education among his Mahratta countrymen by serving as Professor in Ferguson College, Poona, on a nominal salary. He actively identified with the National Congress of India movement and was President of Congress in 1905. He was the founder of The Servants of India Society 1905. Gokhale died February 20, 1915.
