Raksasa

In Hindu mythology, a demon or evil spirit. There are three types: supernatural beings who are like the YAK±AS; lofty beings who are enemies of the gods, or titans; and fearful demons and creatures. Helena P. BLAVATSKY stresses that while R€kasas are considered demons, they are also regarded as “preservers.” This is in connection with the Pur€Šic story about BRAHMš, creator of the R€kasas, who turned himself into Night or Ignorance. As Brahm€ was about to be devoured by the R€kasas and Yakas, he said, “Do not devour me, spare me.” This means that while ignorance should be devoured, sacred truth must also be preserved from profanation.
