A Sanskrit root word (usually transliterated i˜a) meaning “remainder” or “remnant.” It is used in theosophical literature to refer to the seeds of life that remain with a Globe when it goes into “obscuration” (pralaya or inactivity) during each Round. As the Life-Wave of each Round goes from globe to globe (identified in theosophical literature as A through G), some dormant life is left behind on each Globe during its period of inactivity to await the incoming life-wave that will evolve on it in the future. These seeds are the highest representatives of each class or kingdom of life. They are watched over by the Seed-Manu. See Rounds; CHAIN, PLANERARY.
