A Sanskrit word meaning “cessation,” “stopping.” It is used in some schools of Buddhism and in R€ja Yoga to refer to the mastery over the senses such that there is no longer any risk of a return to the condition where the senses dominate consciousness. It is also the quality or virtue necessary for an aspirant to be qualified for advanced spiritual practices.
