The ATMAN or SPIRIT within human beings. It is the seventh principle in the human constitution, which is always linked with Buddhi, the spiritual soul. Hence the Higher Self is at times equated with ATMA-BUDDHI.

In theosophical literature, there is a distinction between the Higher Self and the other intermediate selves or egos. The “spiritual divine ego” is the Buddhi-Manas. The Higher Ego is the Manas or mind principle as distinct from the Buddhi. The lower or personal ego is the outer personality, consisting of the lower mind, k€ma and physical body (Cf. Key to Theosophy). This last is equivalent to the ego as commonly understood in psychology.
