In 1927, the then President of the Theosophical Society (TS), Annie BESANT, with the help of Robert and Sara Logan, Louis Zalk and many members throughout the world, purchased 450 acres of land overlooking the eastern end of the beautiful Ojai valley in California and established the Happy Valley Foundation to promote education for the new age. From this initial vision, the Happy Valley School was founded in 1946. Its official list of founders are Aldous Huxley, J. KRISHNAMURTI, Guido Fernando, Annie Besant and Rosalind Rajagopal. It has since provided a center for young people to grow in a creative, intellectual, physical, spiritual and ethical community, and to explore teachings, both new and old, which lead them to a fuller understanding of self and of the world. From the beginning, individuals who have been active in the Theosophical Society have worked to create a curriculum which reflects the oneness of all life and the ordered and meaningful processes of nature as well as the highest aspirations of the individual.

International in makeup, the small student body (less than 100), is each year composed of representatives from many countries. In addition to the college preparatory curriculum designed to meet University of California entrance requirements, a core curriculum which includes world cultures, ethics, and comparative religion ensures that each student has ample opportunity to explore his or her own world view and appreciate that of others. Since 1979, the Kern Foundation has sponsored classes, retreats and library material, as well as scholarship aid for sons and daughters of members of the Theosophical Society.
