(d. 1890). A Buddhist High Priest who was a champion of Sinhalese (Sri Lankan) Buddhism and built the Temple Mutwalward. Gunananda joined the Theosophical Society in 1877. He was one of two priests who invited the founders (Henry S. OLCOTT and Helena P. BLAVATSKY) to come to Ceylon in support of a campaign to regenerate Buddhism there. He translated a portion of Isis Unveiled. He died on January 21, 1890.
