Theosophy recognizes seven Planes in Nature and associated with those Planes are, in Sanskrit, the seven Tattvas, Tanmatras and Mahabhutas (Prakrti). See individual entries for explanation of these terms. The three terms are frequently referred to in theosophical writings, for the sake of simplicity, as “element.” There is no English term that can be used to identify these three with any degree of accuracy and therefore some later writers have employed the expression “element-principles.”
