A term used by Charles W. Leadbeater to describe certain discarnate souls which are still attracted to the physical world due to some anxiety or attachment towards the world left behind, such as duties left undone or crimes committed while in physical life (Life After Death). He gave several examples of recurrent apparitions experienced by living persons about people who have died who seemed troubled about certain debts unpaid. When the debts were paid, the apparitions ceased. Still others, according to Leadbeater, may be due to thoughts of revenge for wrong done to the deceased by a person who is still alive and who is thereby persecuted by hauntings by earthbound soul. For more accounts see Leadbeater’s Other Side of Death (“The Earthbound”). See also DEATH AND AFTER-DEATH STATES.
