When MANAS the Thinker or Mind, the fifth human PRINCIPLE, instead of being drawn downwards by KAMA, the desire nature, combines with Buddhi, we speak of Buddhi-Manas or enlightened mind. Helena P. BLAVATSKY has stated, quite unequivocally, that it is not possible to reach enlightenment except through Buddhi-Manas and that it is only through that process that the lower mind or personality can reach ATMA, the high spiritual level (CW XII:634).
