A Sanskrit compound meaning the approach to God or SELF-REALIZATION through harmonious and disinterested action. Thus it is said in the Bhagavad-Gita that one acts without being attached to the fruits of one’s actions, doing one’s duty simply because it is one’s duty, not for profit or ambition and not being deflected from it by fear or favor. The practice of karma-marga is usually accompanied by ritual. In this context “karma” means action and “marga” means path.
