Stories of the former incarnations of the BUDDHA, both as human beings and animals. It is part of the Khuddaka Nikaya of the Pali canons. These stories are normally taken literally by Buddhists. Helena P. BLAVATSKY wrote that the stories contain the esoteric symbolism of “a perfect history of the evolution on this earth, pre and post human” (Theos. Glossary, “Buddha Siddharta”).
