The shadowy world of primal or intellectual form (from the Sanskrit chaya, shadow, and loka, world). In the formation of the cosmos, The Secret Doctrine speaks of several stages of manifestation or emanation. The first level is the Divine World, the second is the “Divine Arupa” or the formless Universe of Thought. The latter is reflected in the shadowy world called Chayaloka, also regarded as the first garment of Anupapadaka, or the “parentless” (SD I:118-9).
