A seed or life-germ. It is the cause of the descent of Avatars, or the incarnation of divine beings. Helena P. BLAVATSKY states that there is a mysterious principle in nature called “Mahā-Viṣṇu,” which is not the same as Viṣṇu, which contains Bīja, or the seed of avatarism.
